Academics

This page provides important information about EFY’s academic structure, including program schedules, levels, the academic calendar, placement procedures, and the achievement scale used to evaluate student progress.

Admission Process

EFY Language School has an open, non-competitive enrollment policy. Applicants must be at least 18 years old or have completed secondary/high school education (or its equivalent). To be admitted to either the Intensive English Program or the Semi-Intensive English Program, students must submit the required documentation and pay the non-refundable registration fee. New students may begin classes on any official start date listed in the academic calendar.

 

Registration

Step 1

Complete the Registration Form

Applicants complete the school’s registration form and provide the required personal information.

Step 2

Submit Required Documentation

Students provide identification and any other required documents as part of the registration process.

Step 3

Pay the Registration Fee

Students submit the required non-refundable registration fee to confirm their enrollment.

Step 4

Receive Enrollment Confirmation

Once registration is completed, students receive confirmation of enrollment along with information about their class schedule and program start date.

Placement

Before starting classes, students complete the Interchange/Passages Placement Test to determine their English proficiency level. The results, together with a placement interview with the Academic Director, are used to assign students to the most appropriate course level and class schedule.

 

  • The test contains 70 multiple-choice questions

  • The test takes approximately 60 minutes to complete

  • It evaluates listening, reading, grammar, and vocabulary skills

  • Students also complete a placement interview with the Academic Director

  • Results are used to determine the appropriate English level and class placement

Program Levels

EFY’s Intensive English Program includes six levels of English proficiency:

 

  • Level 1 – Beginner (CEFR A1)

  • Level 2 – Elementary (CEFR A2)

  • Level 3 – Low Intermediate (CEFR B1)

  • Level 4 – Intermediate (CEFR B1+)

  • Level 5 – Upper Intermediate (CEFR B2)

  • Level 6 – Advanced (CEFR C1)

 

Each level is completed in 16 weeks in the Intensive English Program. Students must earn a minimum final score of 60% to advance to the next level.

 

The Semi-Intensive English Program includes the first two levels:

 

  • Beginner (A1)

  • Elementary (A2)

 

Each level in the Semi-Intensive program is completed in 32 weeks.

Academic Calendar

The academic year is organized into three 16-week terms.

 

Term A

  • February 16, 2026 – June 11, 2026

 

Term B

  • June 15, 2026 – October 22, 2026

 

Term C

  • October 26, 2026 – March 4, 2027

Scheduled Breaks

 

  • Spring Break: March 16 – March 19, 2026

  • Summer Break: July 27 – August 13, 2026

  • Thanksgiving Break: November 23 – November 26, 2026

  • Winter Break: December 21 – December 31, 2026

Students may begin classes on any official program start date listed in the academic calendar. 

Note: If a term start date falls on a U.S. federal holiday, classes will begin on the next business day (Tuesday).

EFY Language School observes the following U.S. federal holidays, during which classes may be suspended:

• Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Third Monday in January

• Presidents’ Day – Third Monday in February

• Memorial Day – Last Monday in May

• Juneteenth National Independence Day – June 19

• Independence Day – July 4

• Labor Day – First Monday in September

• Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day – Second Monday in October

• Veterans Day – November 11

• Thanksgiving Day – Fourth Thursday in November

• Christmas Day – December 25

Tuition and Fees

EFY Language School offers flexible tuition options designed to accommodate different study plans. Tuition rates vary depending on the length of enrollment and program selected.

 

Intensive English Program

18 hours per week

• $120 per week — payment every 4 weeks

• $100 per week — 16-week term payment

• $80 per week — 52-week academic year payment

Semi-Intensive English Program

8 hours per week

• $60 per week — payment every 4 weeks

• $50 per week — 16-week term payment

• $40 per week — 52-week academic year payment

Additional Fees

• Registration Fee: $100 (non-refundable)

• Books and Materials: approximately $50–$100 depending on the course level

Student Activities

EFY Language School may organize activities for students.

 

• On-campus activities: Free

• Optional off-campus activities: Cost varies depending on the activity.

 

 

Payment Information

Students may pay tuition:

 

  • Every 4 weeks

  • Per 16-week academic term

  • Per 52-week academic year

Student Services

Student Services

 

EFY Language School provides support services to help students succeed academically and adjust to studying in an English-language environment.

 

Available support includes:

 

  • Student orientation introducing school policies, procedures, and resources

  • Academic advising and guidance related to program progress and course levels

  • Assistance with program questions, schedules, and general school procedures

  • An open-door advising policy allowing students to speak with staff when academic or personal challenges arise

 

Students are encouraged to communicate with instructors or school staff whenever they need assistance during their studies.

Achievement Scale

EFY Language School evaluates student progress using standardized assessments aligned with the objectives of each course level. The program includes six levels of English proficiency, guiding students from beginner to advanced stages of language development. Students must demonstrate sufficient language development before advancing to the next level.

 

Students must earn a minimum final score of 60% to successfully complete a level and progress to the next course level.

 

Example:

If a student successfully completes Level 2 with a final score of 60% or higher, the student will advance to Level 3 in the following term.

Level 1 – Beginner (CEFR A1) The descriptors below summarize the language abilities students are expected to achieve by the end of each program level. Listening Students can recognize familiar words and very basic phrases related to personal and immediate contexts when speech is slow and clear. Reading Students can understand simple words, familiar names, and short sentences on signs, forms, or simple texts. Speaking – Interaction Students can ask and answer simple questions about personal information and participate in short exchanges with support from the listener. Speaking – Production Students can use short, simple phrases and sentences to describe familiar people, places, and daily routines. Writing Students can complete basic forms and write short, simple sentences about personal details.

Level 2 – Elementary (CEFR A2) The descriptors below summarize the language abilities students are expected to achieve by the end of each program level. Listening Students can understand short, clear messages and recognize phrases related to common topics such as family, shopping, work, and daily life. Reading Students can understand short texts and locate specific information in everyday materials such as timetables, menus, and advertisements. Speaking – Interaction Students can engage in short, routine exchanges requiring a direct exchange of information on familiar subjects. Speaking – Production Students can describe people, activities, and surroundings using simple connected sentences. Writing Students can write short, simple notes and messages about familiar topics such as daily routines or personal experiences.

Level 3 – Low Intermediate (CEFR B1) The descriptors below summarize the language abilities students are expected to achieve by the end of each program level. Listening Students can understand the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar matters related to work, school, and leisure. Reading Students can understand straightforward texts written in high-frequency language and identify main ideas and details. Speaking – Interaction Students can participate in conversations on familiar topics and express opinions, preferences, and short explanations. Speaking – Production Students can describe experiences, events, and plans and give brief reasons or explanations for their opinions. Writing Students can write short, connected texts about familiar subjects, describing experiences, feelings, or opinions.

Level 4 – Intermediate (CEFR B1+) The descriptors below summarize the language abilities students are expected to achieve by the end of each program level. Listening Students can understand main ideas and details of discussions and short lectures on familiar topics when speech is clear. Reading Students can read and understand short texts and locate detailed information on subjects of personal or academic interest. Speaking – Interaction Students can start, maintain, and conclude conversations on familiar topics, expressing ideas and responding appropriately. Speaking – Production Students can give detailed descriptions of events, personal experiences, or current topics using connected speech. Writing Students can produce short, organized paragraphs and explain opinions or reasons with supporting details.

Level 5 – High Intermediate (CEFR B2) The descriptors below summarize the language abilities students are expected to achieve by the end of each program level. Listening Students can understand extended speech, lectures, and most TV programs and films in standard English. Reading Students can read and understand longer texts such as articles, reports, and essays that express particular viewpoints. Speaking – Interaction Students can communicate fluently and spontaneously, taking part in discussions and expressing viewpoints clearly. Speaking – Production Students can deliver clear, detailed descriptions and arguments on a wide range of topics using appropriate vocabulary and structure. Writing Students can write well-organized texts such as reports or essays, explaining viewpoints and supporting arguments with reasons and examples.

Level 6 – Advanced (CEFR C1) The descriptors below summarize the language abilities students are expected to achieve by the end of each program level. Listening Students can understand complex speech even when relationships and ideas are implicit or not clearly signposted. Reading Students can comprehend long, complex texts in academic, professional, and literary contexts, recognizing subtle distinctions of meaning and tone. Speaking – Interaction Students can express themselves fluently and precisely in social, academic, and professional situations, adapting their language to the context. Speaking – Production Students can deliver clear, detailed oral presentations on complex subjects, integrating supporting information and organizing ideas effectively. Writing Students can write extended, well-structured texts such as essays, reports, and letters, presenting arguments and viewpoints coherently and appropriately for the audience.

Students are encouraged to first address concerns informally by speaking with a staff member or administrator. If the issue is not resolved, a formal complaint may be submitted through the complaint form.
